James Miller, 79, died peacefully at Shadyside Hospital on March 25. He was known for his exquisite taste, use of color and sophisticated design sense. Jim began his career as an interior designer at Kaufmann’s and went on to work for society decorator Louis Talotta before leaving to start his own firm. He co-founded Toadflax, the iconic Shadyside store, and later opened Boxwood, which also specialized in flowers, gifts and decor. Jim was curious, energetic and a master of conversation. He valued his friends and loved to cook for them when he wasn’t buying books or planning his garden. Jim found great joy in creating beauty, whether with flowers, in a room or in experiences he could share. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Shadyside Hospital Foundation, 532 S. Aiken Ave, #302, Pittsburgh, PA 15232. Arrangements by Ball Funeral Chapel, Inc.
